SOIL’s staff are united by a passion for promoting dignity, health, and sustainable development in Haiti. We share a belief that in transforming wastes into resources, we can help restore Haiti’s beauty and vitality. The majority of our staff are Haitian and they are local to the neighborhoods we serve. This helps us build respectful programs that meet local needs while also supporting Haiti’s long-term economic development.

Dr. Sasha Kramer
Sasha is an ecologist and human rights advocate who has been living and working in Haiti since 2004. She received her Ph.D. in Ecology from Stanford University in 2006 and co-founded SOIL that same year while also completing a postdoctoral research position...
Dr. Jessica Covell
Jessica has a PhD from the University of Miami with a focus on Haitian non-profits. Her academic background focused on international politics and her professional experience is with small, growing organizations in need of operational support.
Daniel Tillias
Daniel Tillias is a community development agent with over 20 years of experience. He is a social entrepreneur and a visionary behind several sustainable initiatives all over Haiti including, ALAVET AYITI, FATRAKA, and Generation Leader 2030, and was most recently awarded the 2019 CNN Hero award.
Nathalie Marc-Charles
Nathalie is an experienced Human Resource leader, Career Coach and a professional in theorganizational psychology & development field. For over 15 years, Nathalie worked for some majorplayers like MTV & AIG focusing on general HR work, coaching andrecruitment.
Nick Preneta
Nick has been with SOIL since 2010, serving first as Operations Director and then Director of Strategy before becoming Deputy Director in 2016 and then Chief Operating Officer in 2020. Nick has a masters in Public Health from Tufts University and was instrumental in coordinating SOIL’s emergency response to the 2010 earthquake in Haiti.
Ken Caplan
Ken is currently Director of Partnerships in Practice – a UK-based consultancy that focuses on ensuring that global to local partnership approaches are fit-for-purpose. Partnerships in Practice builds on the work of the World Bank-supported global multi- stakeholder initiative that Ken directed called Building Partnerships for Development (BPD).
Ingrid Henrys
Ingrid Henrys has a Master’s degree in International Agro-Development Engineering and a Master’s degree in Tropical Area Biodiversity and Conservation. She also took a Permaculture Design course in California and is now doing a Diploma in Applied Permaculture Design with the International Permaculture University of Argentina.

Alyse Schrecongost is a Senior Program Officer for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s Water, Sanitation, & Hygiene Program where she leads the team’s regulatory and utility partnership work. Her grantmaking focuses on fostering change in sanitation sector so inclusive, safe sanitation services in urban areas are increasingly institutionalized and sustained as a sector norm.
Tanvi Nagpal
Tanvi Nagpal is a Senior Fellow at the Foreign Policy Institute, Johns Hopkins University – School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). She was a Practitioner in Residence at SAIS from 2010 – 2021, and served as the Director of the International Development Program from 2019-2021.

Erica Lloyd
Erica is a nonprofit professional committed to working for change alongside underserved youth and communities. Erica spent nine years working with SOIL as the Systems Director and later Research Director, during which time she piloted new technology, tested strategies to improve efficiency in operations, and co-authored multiple publications.
Melanie Stevenson
Melanie serves as SOIL’s Chief Financial Officer and works closely with SOIL leadership and staff on financial reporting, management and strategy. She brings nearly two decades of experience working in programmatic and administrative roles with non-profit organizations.
Lynne Chaimowitz
Lynne Chaimowitz is currently the Assistant General Manager (AGM) of Finance and Administration for Pasadena Water & Power, a community owned utility serving the Pasadena California area with total operating and capital budgets of $450 million annually.

Carel Pedre is a Haitian radio and TV personality, journalist, director, producer, and philanthropist. As the host of Radio One’s Chokarella, Haiti’s number one morning show, and the TV Shows “Kiyès Ki Towo A” and “Digicel Stars” Haiti’s premier talent search, Pedre has established himself as a key figure in Haiti’s entertainment industry.
Elizabeth Campa
Elizabeth is currently the Director of the University of Global Health Equity-Haiti. She began her overseas work in the United States Peace Corps as a water and sanitation volunteer in a small community located in the Saharan desert of Morocco.
Ellie Happel
Ellie Happel is an attorney with the Global Justice Clinic at NYU School of Law, where she co-directs the Clinic’s work on human rights and climate justice in Haiti. Ellie also co-teaches the Global Justice Clinic seminar.
Harry Luc
Born and raised in Saint Marc, Haiti, Harry Luc is the president of Handzup Group, a company that promotes socially-engaged artists. At the age of fifteen, he moved to Pétionville with his family.
James Felter
James is an internationally recognized documentary filmmaker currently working as a Senior Lead Editor for National Geographic and Disney+. In addition to a BA in Social Work and a Masters Degree in Communication James also has a long history of direct action community development.
Kelvin Hughes
Kelvin was CEO of Clean Team Ghana (CTG) until December 2021. CTG is a social business delivering household sanitation services to low-income homes whilst saving them money. Prior to CTG, Kelvin ran Future First Global, a charity leveraging alumni for systems change in global education.
Kory Russel
Kory Russel has more than a decade of design, implementation, and research experience in non-networked water and sanitation services focused on resource-constrained locations around the world.
Rea Dol
Rea Dol is an educator and community mobilizer from Jeremie who has lived and worked in Port-au-Prince for over 30 years. Rea is married to Jean Jacques Bataille and has 3 biological children and 13 adopted children.

Bob McLaughlin
A cherished friend and former SOIL Board Member, Bob McLaughlin was a distinguished business and financial professional with over 60 years of experience in accounting, taxes, and business consulting. As a certified public accountant, Bob dedicated his career to serving the Rockford, Illinois community. He supported his growing family and inspired friends and neighbors alike through a life of service. Bob's legacy with SOIL is marked by a curious mind, a generous heart, and an unwavering commitment to justice.
Elaine Covell
Elaine was part of SOIL’s story for more than a decade. Her home served as SOIL’s official address for many years, and she faithfully received all official correspondence, forwarding every document with care. Her Miami condo also became a home-away-from-home for SOILies, a place where many of us rested and regrouped while traveling to and from Haiti. Elaine’s generosity created a warm space of hospitality and welcome, a cornerstone of the SOIL family.
Pat Kramer
As SOIL’s longest-serving volunteer, Pat was a champion of compassion and empathy. For over 15 years, Pat's home served as SOIL’s official mailing address for donations. She took great joy in receiving donations and sending out thank you letters, and often remarked that witnessing the generous outpouring of support from SOIL’s community was a powerful reminder of the inherent goodness in the world, even amidst great suffering.
