SOIL mentioned in NYTimes Article “Haitians Reel as Trump Severs a Lifeline”

Last month, SOIL provided a statement to the NYTimes on the effects of the travel ban issued on June 4th, rescinding multiple visa categories for several countries, including Haiti. SOIL’s Executive Director, Sasha Kramer, gave insight as to how this decision hinders our ability to train, meet with, and bring Haitian thought leaders to international conferences to discuss the critical need for sanitation planning throughout the country.
We remain deeply concerned about the humanitarian consequences of this policy—and its disproportionate impact on children who are waiting for life‑saving surgeries, on students pursuing education abroad, and on researchers dedicated to improving sanitation across Haiti. With visas now being incredibly difficult, if not impossible, to attain, Haitian government officials are facing difficulty getting to where they need to be to help push forward economic and humanitarian agendas.
